Jill speaks frequently on social networking tools that are used for connecting, sharing and collaborating. She gives workshops and presentations on social networking tools in general as well as on specific technologies (e.g., Second Life). She has done workshops/presentations for:
Jill is also a frequent author whose published works include articles on Second Life for VIP and Information Outlook. In 2006, she did a TV interview about Second Life which included a tour of the virtual world (video best viewed with Internet Explorer). In addition to being president of Hurst Associates, Ltd., since 2001 Jill has been a senior instructor for Syracuse University's School of Information Studies, teaching graduate courses in a variety of topics including "Second Life & Librarianship." In 2007, she taught continuing education classes through the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) on Second Life librarianship with a team of other Second Life librarians. In 2007, Jill was appointed to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries, which advises the Board of Regents on matters pertaining to libraries in New York State. She has held leadership positions in most of these organizations, including being on an Association Task Force for SLA.
Interviews: In June 2005, Jill was interviewed by Lip-Sticking for its Smart Women Online series. In September 2006, Information Outlook published an article on Jill and her career as an information professional. Honors: In 2007, Jill was honored as the "Minority Small Business" Champion by the Syracuse office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Syracuse SBA office covers 34 counties in Upstate New York. |
