RSSCalendar purchased by Lookout Software

In looking for a calendar program that would integrate into a blog, I found RSSCalendar though a colleague and liked it. It is easy to use and can generate an RSS feed that can be integrated into a web site or blog. RSSCalendar has been in perpetual beta and the features have not changed in a year. Today I received word that RSSCalendar has been acquired by LookOut Software. LookOut says that there will develop a more powerful commercial application based on the RSSCalendar platform, but will also keep a free consumer-oriented version. It will be interesting to see how the product changes.

  • The last product LookOut produced/bought they ended up selling to MS for boatloads of money :) It became the search engine that is now built into Vista and is available as a download for Outlook 2007. Lookout (the original software product) was an add-on to Outlook that quickly indexed and allowed cross-folder searching of your outlook folders.

  • Actually Microsoft bought a company named Lookout Software but it is not the same Lookout Software LLC that bought RSS. Lookout Software LCC (www.lookoutsoftware.com) is located in Dallas, TX and offers several commercial products. I've used their OfficeCalendar product (www.officecalendar.com) and it is a Microsoft Exchange alternative to share Outlook calendars contacts and tasks across a network or over the web. They also sell a web based time sheet and expense management system for companies or departments that are project focused and driven. The other products are Outlook add-ons and of course now RSS.
