Culture

How do we learn culture (however you want to define that word)? I believe that we learn about our culture and about being cultured through our interactions with others. I think there are some aspects of culture that are learned when interacting in specific settings (e.g., formal organizations). Some pieces of culture are taught to us by our parents, our neighbors and our community (those that we physically interact with). When we talk about a group's qualities, often -- I think -- we're noticing aspects of their culture including those things that they have learned (as passed down from generation to generation) out of necessity. An easily example is that if you live in a farming community, there is knowledge that you will learn just by being there. There is also a "way of being" that will become your way of being.

So today with many of us spending a lot of time online typing and reading text, what culture are we learning? What culture are we transmitting? And how?

You may think this is a stupid point, but think about the things you old dear and I suspect that some of those things relate to culture. Let's hope that those things continue.
